-Furthermore, as with all things on the Wiki, this document may need to be edited to help clarify the admin and lore teams intended meaning, and for edge cases we may not have considered, but should have. It is our intent to keep these changes small, infrequent, and as non-disruptive of RP as possible, and we will notify people of any changes to The Agreement via a post on the Lore channel in Discord, and through the [[Agreement Changelog]]. But it is a good idea to check here once in a while to ensure you are kept up to date. Especially if you play a role that is expected to know The Agreement.'''<br>

    a. Only the Captain, First Officer, Aegis Lieutenant, Aegis Sergeant or Aegis Inspector may issue an Arrest Warrant.

'''Exceptions to Warrants'''

4. If waiting for a warrant would cause further hazard to the ship or personnel, then a warrant may be approved and presented after the arrest if deemed necessary.

<br>

5. Searches of public areas or of arrested individuals does not require a warrant or authorization.

<br>

<br>

<center> '''Courtroom Guidelines''' </center><br>

1. Appropriate Crimes

    a. Any 3XX may be challenged by the accused to be fought in a court setting.

    b. '''ALL''' 4XX crimes should be proven in a court setting if the situation permits.

2. Court Staffing Protocol

    a. The Captain shall act as the Judge

    b. The First Officer or Inspector shall act as Prosecution

    c. The accused may choose who defends them. Otherwise, the Union Merchant shall act as a "Public Defender." The Merchant may charge for this service.

3. No personnel shall be permitted to remain armed in the courtroom, except for Aegis Personnel, The Captain and the First Officer. Aegis Security is charged with ensuring all court-goers are unarmed. Searches are authorized without a warrant for anyone attempting to enter the court, with exception to those authorized.

    a. Any Weapons presented as Evidence should be secured and unloaded.

4. While this is the standard courtroom procedure; the Captain may modify this procedure at any point prior to the start of the court session.

<br>

<br>

<center> '''Criminal Code''' </center><br>

Crimes as organized under Criminal Codes range from 0XX to 4XX in terms of severity. In order to ensure fairness in sentencing there are restrictions on what an arrestee may be charged with. In general, 1XX has a maximum of 10 minute confinment, 2XX has 15, 3XX has 20 and 4XX is reserved for permanent confinement or execution worthy crimes. A handful of exceptions to these exist. Fines are to be handled by Operative discretion within the maximum limits. Consider the CC punishments as a reference and a guide.

<br>

<br>

<b>Crime Stacking</b> is forbidden. Crimes of the same code level (103 Resisting Arrest & 303 Assault on an Officer) cannot be stacked with one another whatsoever. Pick one based on the severity of the crime.

<br>

<b>Multiple Counts</b> You may not charge someone with the same crime multiple times in one sentence. Even if someone is in possession of multiple drugs, they may only be charged with one count.

<br>

<b>Fines:</b> May be handled at the discretion of the arresting officer upto their maximum and are to be turned over to the Lieutenant. Any 3XX Fine is handled as a probationary release with a tracking implant as a requirement.

<br>

<b>Exempt Clause:</b> The Captain of the vessel is exempt from certain portions of the The Agreement. While NanoTrasen owns the ship, it is entrusted to the Captain during its operation. He or she may not be fined or confined for any 0XX-2XX crime, with exception to any sexual or violent crimes.

Latest revision as of 10:01, 13 July 2024

This Agreement is an IC set of laws ratified by the corporations who financed the expedition to dictate their rights and responsibilities on this voyage. These are not OOC rules and will not be enforced by the server administration, but can and should be enforced ICly by those with the authority and wish to do so.
-Furthermore, as with all things on the Wiki, this document may need to be edited to help clarify the admin and lore teams intended meaning, and for edge cases we may not have considered, but should have. It is our intent to keep these changes small, infrequent, and as non-disruptive of RP as possible, and we will notify people of any changes to The Agreement via a post on the Lore channel in Discord, and through the Agreement Changelog. But it is a good idea to check here once in a while to ensure you are kept up to date. Especially if you play a role that is expected to know The Agreement.

  1. Captain and their Crew
The NEV "Northern Light" belongs to NanoTrasen. The Captain's Board, a board of high ranking NT officials and shareholders aboard, is their primary representative. In the case of irreversible death of the Captain, the First Officer can assume command of the ship. In the event of both high ranking individuals being incapacitated, the department most relevant to the emergency at hand assumes control until the emergency has passed.

  • 1.1 - The Cryogenic Oversight computer will only awaken one member of the Captain's board at a time, this representative serves as the voice of NanoTrasen aboard this vessel.
  • 1.2 - Except under extreme emergency, no order issued by any crewman, including the Captain, may apply beyond the shift that the order was issued on.
    • 1.2.1 - A head of staff may reassert any order given from a previous shift, provided the issuing person is present to confirm and enforce the order.
  • 1.3 - The Captain or his representative may not assign personnel to departments on board without the approval of the relevant departmental head;
    • 1.3.1 - A department's Head of Staff may hire any crewman they deem appropriate to any position within their assigned department.
    • 1.3.2 - A crewman may only be terminated from his position by written order of that department's Head of Staff
    • 1.3.3 - The Captain may demote a Head of Staff provided there is another employee in that department who can assume the duties.
      • 1.3.3a - A demotion so granted will only apply for the shift it is ordered. A permanent demotion requires a fax to the demoted employee's organization for review, final decision is left up to that organization.
  • 1.4 - A department head may refuse a captain's orders at any time provided doing so does not break any terms of this Agreement.
  • 1.5 - No crewman may make changes to this agreement.
    • 1.5.1 - At any time, the Captain may choose to secede from the agreement in case of emergency, relinquishing his authority to the First Officer, or an appropriate department head.
    • 1.5.2 - A Captain who relinquishes his authority in this way may only return to his previous position with the written or verbal permission of all available department heads.
  • 1.6 - For the purpose of this Agreement, Head of Staff refers to the following roles aboard the NEV “Northern Light:” Aegis Commander, Chief Engineer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Science Officer, Free Trade Union Merchant, and Mekhane Preacher.
    • 1.6.2 - These roles are considered equal to one another, and have jurisdiction only over their assigned departments.
    • 1.6.3 - As Cryogenic Oversight will only awaken one Head of Staff per department, Heads of Staff are expected to enter cryogenic storage at the end of their assigned shift, or if suffering from Space Sleep Disorder (SSD).
    • 1.6.4 - In the absence of an appropriate Head of Staff, each corporation shall follow their internal chain of command for determining the current department head.
    • 1.6.5 - The department head may act as the Head of Staff for the purpose of enforcing this agreement except where it explicitly states “Head of Staff."
    • 1.6.6 - Only the First Officer has the authority to assume acting captainship.

The Ship's Crew, including all hired employees of any organization, have agreed to abide by the laws set in this agreement and shall have the right to:

  • 1.7 - Store and bear any kind of weapon and ammunition that is not classified as contraband by Aegis.
  • 1.8 - Conduct business which is not inconsistent with the agreement, and is not in breach of any written law.
  • 1.9 - Protect themselves and any other crewman in case of immediate risk of loss of life or severe bodily harm.
  • 1.10 - Appropriate everything found within uninhabited sections of the vessel, if it is not the property of any crewman or organization on board.

    • 2.4.1 - Except under the above situations or a Code Red Alert, Aegis must receive permission from an employee of that area's controlling corporation to enter a non-public area of the vessel.
    • 2.4.2 - Aegis is permitted to assign operatives to designated “Security Posts” within department areas.
      • 2.4.2a - An operative so assigned must be identified by an appropriate announcement to the department, and a signed order by the Gunnery Sergeant or Commander, which the operative must keep on their person and present to any employee of the assigned corporation upon request.
      • 2.4.2b - An operative so assigned may patrol any area they have access to within their assigned department
